Word Player

TurnWord Word Player is the TurnWord word guessing game — play unlimited games and let the AI turn your practice into mastery. You have a configurable number of guesses to identify a hidden five-letter word. After each guess the tiles change color to indicate how closely your guess matched the target. Play a single board for a focused challenge, or take on two or four boards at once — each hiding its own word, all sharing the same guess pool. Multi-board play is TurnWord Word Player's defining feature: every guess you make lands on every board simultaneously, turning each move into a decision that reverberates across the entire game.

Reading The Colors

C
Green Correct: Right letter, right position. Keep it there.
P
Yellow Present: Right letter, wrong position. Move it next guess.
A
Gray — Absent: Letter not in word.
The on-screen keyboard updates after every guess to reflect the best-known status of each letter across all active boards. In multi-board mode a letter may be green on one board and yellow or gray on another. Read each board's row of tiles independently.

Settings Menu

The Settings Menu at the top-right corner of the screen offers these options:
  • Maximum Number of Guesses
  • Number of Boards
  • Target Word Difficulty
  • Guess Rules
Detailed descriptions of these options follow. A new game is started if you change one of these options mid-game.

Maximum Number of Guesses

The number of guesses can be set from 4 to 10. The default setting reflects the added complexity of tracking multiple hidden words:
  • 5 guesses for 1 board
  • 6 guesses for 2 boards
  • 9 guesses for 4 boards

Number of Boards

  • 1 Board — Classic: One hidden target word, one guess pool. A focused, precise challenge. Default is 5 guesses.
  • 2 Boards — Double: Two different hidden target words, one shared guess pool. Every guess is submitted to both boards simultaneously. Both words must be solved within the guess limit to win. Default is 6 guesses.
  • 4 Boards — Quad: Four different hidden target words, one shared guess pool. All four must be solved to win. Default is 9 guesses. Managing four independent sets of constraints with a single sequence of guesses requires a different kind of thinking entirely.
NOTE: Multi-Board Play is not supported on Phones due to limited screen space.

Target Word Difficulty

Target Word Difficulty sets how common — and, at the top step, how hard to guess — the hidden word is likely to be, in four steps. Every answer is drawn from the same curated word list — the setting only changes the word's commonness and trickiness, never whether it's a legitimate answer.
  • Everyday — the most common, everyday words; recognized immediately by most players.
  • Common — familiar, moderately common words.
  • Uncommon — less common words that call for a broader vocabulary.
  • Tricky — the hardest answers to guess; often less common and rarely seen in daily puzzles, or buried in a crowd of near-identical words, but still real, fair words.

Guess Rules

Guess Rules control how guesses are evaluated. The default is Easy.
ModeGreen positionYellow presentYellow position forbiddenGray forbidden
Easy (0) (default)NoNoNoNo
Hard (1)YesYesNoNo
Expert (2)YesYesNoYes
Optimal (3)YesYesYesYes

Optimal also caps each letter's count at the number the answer is known to contain (not shown as a column).

  • Easy: No rules enforced. Any valid word is accepted at any time. This allows probing guesses — words chosen to test new letters rather than to solve the board.
  • Hard: Green letters must stay in position. Yellow letters must be used again somewhere in the next word. A rejected guess does not count against your total.
  • Expert: Everything in Hard, plus a gray (absent) letter can't be used again.
  • Optimal: Everything in Expert, plus a yellow letter can't return to the position it was yellow before, and no letter may appear more times than the answer contains. This is the strictest mode — the same rules the AI plays by.
Multi-board note
The more boards you play at a time, the more constraints stack up — every active board's suggestions apply to your next guess at the same time. On four boards in Expert or Optimal this can reduce your valid options to almost nothing — which is precisely the point.

How To Play

In the Settings Menu, select your board mode, guess count, Target Word Difficulty, and Guess Rules. Then type any valid five-letter word and press "Enter". The tiles on every active board flip simultaneously to show the color result for that board's hidden word. Use the feedback to choose your next guess, repeating until all active boards are solved or the guess limit is reached.
In multi-board mode, a board that is fully solved stays on screen so you can still read its feedback. When all boards are solved, the game ends in a win. If the guess limit is reached with any board unsolved, the hidden target word for each unsolved board is revealed.

TurnWord AI Suggestions

TurnWord Word Player includes an AI Suggestion system that analyzes your current board state and generates ranked suggestions for the hidden word you are working on. Tap AI Suggestions 💡 to see the top-ranked suggestion — then tap again to see the next. Suggestions are ranked best-first, up to 5 per guess. Each suggestion is displayed for you to read and select before moving on. They are our best AI suggestions: use them or not! Every suggestion includes a Definition , so you can make an informed choice even when a word looks unfamiliar.

Undo

Undo is one of the most distinctive features of TurnWord Word Player, and reflects the TurnWord emphasis on learning alongside playing. At any point in a game you can undo your most recent guess and try a different word. You can undo multiple times, stepping back through your guess history all the way to the beginning if you want to start fresh. This is not just a safety net — it is an invitation to experiment.

Target Word

If play ends on a board without a win, tap to reveal the Target Word (and its definition).

New Game

New Game starts a fresh game with new hidden target words using your current board mode, guess count, and difficulty settings.

Definition

Every suggestion includes a Definition , so you can make an informed choice even when a word looks unfamiliar. You can also see a definition for a completed row by tapping on the row, and then on the Definition icon that appears.

Keyboard and Input

You type letters in your guess using a physical keyboard or the on-screen keyboard displayed below the boards. "Enter" submits a guess. Backspace removes the last letter entered.

Warnings

You'll see a warning message if:
  • Your guess isn't a recognized word
  • A rule violation in Hard, Expert, or Optimal mode

Tips and Strategy

  • Open with a word that covers a broad spread of common letters. Our top-ranked starters: PLATE (best overall), STARE (fewest guesses on average), STALE (strong across the board), SLATE (widely used, highly reliable), CLASP (most consistent).
  • A yellow tile carries two pieces of information: the letter is present in the hidden word, and it is not in the position you placed it. Use both facts when choosing your next guess.
  • In Easy Mode, probe early and commit late. Use the first few guesses to test letter coverage broadly before trying to solve.
  • In Hard Mode and above, look for guesses that satisfy constraints and learn at the same time.
  • Use Undo to compare paths. Try a guess, observe what it reveals, undo it, and try a different word.
  • In multi-board modes, focus on the board with the least information. A board with four greens can wait another guess. A completely open board cannot.
  • Read eliminations across all boards. A letter gray on every board is gone from all hidden words. A letter gray on one board but yellow on another is still live.
  • Watch the on-screen keyboard. It reflects the combined best-known status of every letter across all active boards.
  • Use AI suggestions strategically, not as a rescue. Try to solve with the vaguest suggestion possible. The practice is the point.
One puzzle a day is never enough. TurnWord Word Player gives you unlimited five-letter word guessing games — and when one board feels too easy, try playing with multiple boards at the same time, with one, two, or four hidden words simultaneously, all sharing the same guesses. Every move reverberates across every board.
Word Player doesn't just give you more games to play. It turns every game into a chance to get better — with AI suggestions that teach you why certain words work, and Undo so you can try a different path whenever you want.

Sound Familiar?

"I finish my daily puzzle in two minutes and want more"
Play as many games as you want, whenever you want. No waiting, no limits.
"Single board puzzles feel too easy now"
Two boards with two separate target words doubles the complexity. Four boards is a different game entirely — one wrong move echoes across every board simultaneously.
"I've been playing for months and I'm still not getting any better"
AI suggestions start broad and get more specific with each tap. Use them to learn the game, not just survive it.
"I want to practice without the pressure of losing my streak"
Undo any guess and try a different word. Walk back as far as you need. Word Player is designed for learning as much as winning.
The Word Player AI suggestion system is trained on over 100,000 games. Its suggestions aren't tips — they're the words most likely to move you toward the answer in the fewest remaining moves. Fans of multi-board word puzzles will find a familiar challenge here — with unlimited play, AI suggestions that no daily puzzle offers, and the ability to push yourself as hard as you want. Either way, every game makes you sharper. Every suggestion includes a Definition , so you can make an informed choice even when a word looks unfamiliar.
Target Word Difficulty lets you choose how common the hidden word is likely to be. Every answer is drawn from the same curated word list — the levels simply range from the most everyday words, which most players recognize instantly, to the trickiest, least common ones on the list. It's one of the things that makes Word Player more than just another word guessing game — you decide how hard to push.
